Mabry named to NCPreps.com All-State 3-A team

KANNAPOLIS - Rocky Mount sophomore forward Tashawn Mabry has been RM logonamed to the 2008 NCPreps.com 3-A All-State boys basketball team.

The website announced its All-State teams on Tuesday.

Mabry led the Gryphons to a share of the NEW 6 Conference basketball title and to the league tournament championship. Rocky Mount (19-7) fell in the NCHSAA 3-A sectional finals to Northern Vance. He was voted Co-Player of the Year with SouthWest Edgecombe's Eugene Jenkins.

Mabry, an All-NEW 6 Conference selection for the second straight season, finished sixth in the state in scoring with 24.2 points per games while he pulled down 7.4 rebounds a contest. He also blocked 87 shots for the season.

North Carolina State and Wake Forest have already made scholarship offers to the 6-foot-5, 200-pound Mabry. Mabry has scored 1,214 points in his career - placing him third on Rocky Mount's all-time scoring list behind Phil Ford (2,093) and Buck Williams (1,402).

Wilson Fike's Jeremy Atkinson was the only other NEW 6 Conference player selected to the team.
