Lady Gryphs top Roanoke Rapids in girls soccer
March 14, 2009 Rocky Mount High School
- Rocky Mount head coach Andrew Nick
Rocky Mount's girls soccer team posted a 1-0 home win over Roanoke Rapids Wednesday afternoon. The victory was the Lady Gryphons' third straight after a season-opening 1-0 loss to Wilson Hunt, their next opponent Friday (5 p.m.).
"We had another great battle yesterday with Roanoke Rapids," said first-year head coach Andrew Nick. "The game was very physical between both teams during the match. Holly Campbell was in goal with 17 saves along with recording her third shutout in a row.
"We got outstanding defensive play from Lauren Campbell, Michelle Karr, Caroline Gray and Nora Ling, who returned to the lineup after an injury," he said. "Allison Raper scored the only goal at the end of the first half with a left-footed blast into the far corner with 25 seconds remaining in the half."
Rocky Mount controlled most of the play throughout the game, but RRHS kept the pressure up towards the end of the game only to come up short in the end. |
