Rocky Mount duo falls in NCHSAA 3-A doubles final

November 1, 2009
By Charles Alston of Rocky Mount High School

GREENSBORO - Rocky Mount girls tennis doubles team of Lindsay Thomas and Kate Gray fell in the NCHSAA 3-A girls doubles state championship match Saturday to Chapel Hill High duo Tori Helpingstine and Hannah Kimbrough 6-1, 6-2.

The Rocky Mount tandem beat longtime rivals Caroline Kernodle and Helen Powell of Burlington Williams in a tough three-set match earlier in the morning (5-7, 7-6(5), 6-2) in the semifinals to advance to the finals.

Due to rain in the Triad area, the matches were all moved from the Burlington Tennis Center to Greensboro's Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
