ROCKY MOUNT - Rocky Mount's JV football team suffered its fourth straight loss Thursday evening in a 13-6 defeat to Big East foe Wilson Fike at the Rocky Mount Athletic Complex.
The Jr. Gryphons' only score came in the fourth quarter.
Down 7-0 (a Cameron Avery to Braxton Sauls 40-yard touchdown pass with 2:44 left in the first period), Rocky Mount quarterback Tevin Taylor hit Mike Westry (two catches for 92 yards) with a perfect 72-yard pass for a touchdwon with 9:37 left in the game. RMHS' two-point run failed, but Rocky Mount (3-5, 0-3) had narrowed the gap to one point.
However, on its ensuing possession, Fike drove 74 yards in six plays for a score. Alex Ruffin's 27-yard scoring scamper put the Golden Demons up 13-6 with 7:10 remaining.
The Gryphons looked as though they'd match Fike's score as Naquan Sheridan returned Fike's kickoff 77 yards to the Golden Demons' 17-yard line.
But Rocky Mount harmlessly went only six yards on its four downs before the turning the ball over to Fike.
Ahmad Harrell led Rocky Mount with 102 yards on 12 carries.
The Gryphons will travel to Southern Nash next Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m. |
