Southern Nash rally falls short vs. Rocky Mount

STANHOPE -- Host Southern Nash stormed back from an two-game deficit before finally surrendering Thursday's varsity volleyball matchup to Rocky Mount in the fifth game.
The Ladybirds, who could have moved into a tie for first in the 3-A Big East Conference with the Gryphons with a win, suffered a 27-25, 25-22, 17-25, 11-25, 15-10 setback. Southern Nash fell to 2-2 in Big East matches and 3-8 overall.
Senior Latoya Deans put up five kills and six blocks while Mallory Bass had five kills and a block to go along with 14 service points.
Hillary Wilson made 13 service points, five assists and four digs while Logan McNinch had 16 points and two digs. Brittany Wood had six points, four assists and two digs while Brittney Finney tallied seven points and five digs.
For Rocky Mount, stat leaders were as follows: Tia Hudgins (15 kills, assist, 6 digs, 2 blocks); Timishia Walker (11 kills, assist, 4 blocks); Danita Whitaker (7 kills, 11 digs, block); Heather Hunter (14 assists, kill, 3 digs, 2 blocks). |
